Music Ministry of Dunwoody UMC

The Music Ministry of Dunwoody UMC Chancel Choir serves to glorify God and enhance the worship of our church through excellent and joyful choral and instrumental music. We strive to grow as individuals and ensembles by developing high standards of musicianship, and to honor our rich artistic heritage while continuing to explore new musical ideas. We hope that through blending our many gifts we can help ourselves, each other, and our entire community encounter God in a new and meaningful way.

Below you can find details about how you can become involved in this exciting ministry. We have opportunities for everyone from age 3 to 93 and beyond, in both traditional and modern styles. Chancel Choir

Wednesdays, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.,
Adult Choir Room

The premier musical ensemble of DUMC. In addition to singing during the Traditional Worship service on Sundays, the Chancel Choir hosts multiple performances each year, including a Christmas concert. New singers are always welcome and no audition is required.

Musica Gloria

Sundays, 9:15 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Adult Choir Room

A small, largely a cappella choral ensemble whose members come from the Chancel Choir. Basic music reading skills are needed, and private auditions are held as a prerequisite. Musica Gloria often sings in worship and at other events upon request.

Women’s Choir

Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Resumes August 23
Adult Choir Room

This ensemble is for women who are available to rehearse during the weekday. Repertoire for this group is light and fun and includes both sacred and secular selections. They share the gift of music during worship, and as a form of outreach at local nursing homes and community centers.

Dunwoody Handbell Ringers

Mondays, 7:00 p.m. – 8:15 p.m., Resumes August 21
Bell Choir Room (Room 102)

An advanced group that performs regularly for worship services and concerts. Music reading is required for this ensemble. Performances vary.

Bells Aflame Youth Handbell Choir

Sundays, 4:00 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.
Bell Choir Room (Room 102)

The Youth Handbell Choir is open to youth in grades 6 through 12. No experience is necessary, although it is helpful to have some basic knowledge of reading musical notation, especially rhythms. We perform several times throughout the year, including the Family Christmas Concert, Christmas Eve service and Youth Sunday in the spring. Performances vary.

Chrysalis Youth Choir

Sundays, 4:45 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Adult Choir Room

The Youth Choir is a open to all youth in grades 6 through 12. They minister through music in worship, on mission trips, in concerts and on summer choir tours. We welcome all youth who want to make a joyful noise and enjoy Christian fellowship. Performances vary.

Children

Children's Choirs theme this year is "We Are All God's Masterpiece." We will be learning about how we are created by God and that we are God's best work- God's masterpiece, while preparing to share our music in worship. No experience is necessary.

All of the children's choirs learn the fundamentals of beautiful singing, basic musicianship, and how to worship God by offering their gifts and talents. They make friends and build relationships with adult leaders that enrich their spiritual growth in God's church. We have choirs for all ages.

Cherub Preschool Choir

Wednesdays, 4:30 p.m. – 4:55 p.m.
Children's Choir Room

Open to preschoolers ages 3 (by Sept. 1) through 4 years old. Children are introduced to using their "singing voice", playing rhythm instruments, and what it means to be a choir. The children learn that through music, even the youngest of God's children can participate in worship.

Celebration Choir, Carol Choir & The Choristers

5:00 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.
Children’s Choir Room

Open to elementary aged children, Kindergarten through 5th grade. Children build on their musical knowledge learned in Cherub Choir while also beginning to learn how to read music. Members begin singing in parts, expand their knowledge of musical notation, and begin preparing for leadership in worship services. Special events for the year include worship services, Christmas Eve services, community outreach and the end of year musical.

Children’s Tone-Chime Choir

Wednesdays, 4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Bell Choir Room (Room 102)

Open to 3rd - 5th graders. This beginning choir uses tone chimes, which are similar to handbells, and is for 3rd - 5th graders. Music experience is helpful, but not required. Performances are at various services throughout the year.

Baby Musikgarten Class

The Dunwoody UMC Music Department is excited to offer baby music classes for babies and caregivers. This ministry is designed to provide dedicated time each week to have fun making music while bonding with your child. We will be using the well-known Musikgarten curriculum. Music for babies classes, newborn to 18 months (and caregiver), are Tuesdays, 9:15 am to 9:45 am, September 10, 2024, through December 3, 2024.

Toddler Musikgarten Class

The Dunwoody UMC Music Department is excited to add Toddler (with caregivers) music classes to our Musikgarten program. This ministry is designed to provide dedicated time each week to have fun making music while bonding with your child. We will be using the well-known Musikgarten curriculum. Classes are offered at the church. Music for Toddlers classes, ages 15 months to 3 years-old (and caregiver), are Thursdays, 9:15 am to 9:45 am, September 12, 2024, through December 5, 2024.
